Dr Kartik Gupta: Maharashtra & Central India’s First Gold Medal

Recipient of the prestigious “Dr Sunil Agrawal Gold Medal” in Peripheral Vascular Surgery

In May 2026, Dr Kartik Chandrakant Gupta became the first surgeon from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to receive the gold medal in Vascular Surgery at the national level.
At the 23rd Convocation Ceremony of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, Dr Kartik received the prestigious “Dr Sunil Agrawal Gold Medal” for securing the highest marks in the DrNB Superspeciality final examination.
The medal was conferred by Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, internationally renowned gastroenterologist and Chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, in the presence of Dr Mallikarjuna C (Vice President, NBEMS) and Dr Minu Bajpai (Honorary Executive Director, NBEMS).

Following the convocation, Dr Kartik was felicitated by Prof. Rakesh Sinha, a Former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, at his residence in New Delhi. Prof. Sinha congratulated Dr Kartik for bringing distinction to Central India in the highly specialised field of vascular surgery.

Dr Kartik completed his three-year superspeciality residency at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, with focused training in complex open vascular surgeries, advanced endovascular interventions, and vascular imaging.
Earning this merit at the national level affirms that patients in Nagpur, Vidarbha region, and Central India now have access to specialised vascular & endovascular care without having to travel far.
